Washington, D.C. — December 20, 2024 — Potomac Boat Club is proud to announce that five of its junior athletes have been invited to attend the prestigious USRowing U19 High Performance Winter Camp held in Chula Vista, CA, a key step in the process for national team identification. The USRowing U19 Winter Camp brings together athletes from across the country and an important step in the long-term development of young rowers, with the potential to secure spots on future national teams and international competitions. The athletes selected to participate in the USRowing U19 Winter Camp are:

  • Tony Madigan of Wakefield High School, Arlington, VA
  • Mira Meek of Wakefield High School, Arlington, VA
  • Kenzie (Kensington) Ruhl of McLean High School, McLean, VA
  • Blythe Stealy of West Springfield High School, Springfield, VA
  • Daniel Reilly of Georgetown Day School, Washington, DC

These athletes were chosen based on their exceptional performances at national and regional regattas, where they demonstrated outstanding skill, athleticism, and determination. The Winter Camp serves as a critical evaluation and training opportunity for young athletes aspiring to be part of the U.S. National Team in various rowing disciplines. “PBC’s outsize representation is a testament to the hard work of our athletes and our coaches and to the support of the club’s members,” said by Lauren Schumer, Racing Committee Chair of Potomac Boat Club.

USRowing has extended invitations to sixty girls and sixty boys to their winter camp. “We are thrilled to see these five athletes receive this incredible opportunity,” said Carol Dinion, head juniors coach of Potomac Boat Club. “Their hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport have truly set them apart, and we couldn’t be more proud of their achievements.”

The Potomac Boat Club has a longstanding tradition of excellence in rowing, and these latest accomplishments are a testament to the club’s commitment to fostering young talent and developing athletes to their full potential. “We’re excited to see what the future holds for these young rowers, and we’re confident they will continue to make their mark on the sport at the national level,” added Matt Madigan, assistant juniors coach.
